Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Supports (PHTLS)

PHTLS is a two-day comprehensive course which provides an understanding of the need for, and techniques of, rapid assessment of the trauma patient.  It advances the students’ knowledge with regard to examination and diagnostic skills and enhances their performance in the assessment and treatment of the trauma patient.  It enhances the student’s level of competence in regard to specific prehospital intervention skills for the multi-system trauma patient.

This course also promotes a common approach for the first response care, to the mid-level and advanced care, and follows through the continuum of care until the transition is made for the patient to be delivered to a more definitive care facility.
